Antonio Cassano may be playing his way back into contention for World Cup selection by Cesare Prandelli

Key Soccerlytics Insights:

  • Since moving to Parma during the off-season, Antonio Casssano has been in good form so far this season providing 45 "shot assists" (resulting in 3 actual assists), which is 3rd best in Europe's top 5 leagues (See BSports Creative Player Charts below)
    • Mesut Ozil (4th best in this category) has less (44) "shot assists" than Cassano, but more actual assists (6), which is due primarily to the quality of finishers surrounding each player at Arsenal and Parma respectively
    • Marseille and France play-maker Mathieu Valbuena is in a similar situation to Cassano in that he has produced 47 "shot assists" but only 3 actual assists
  • "Fantantonio" is also 3rd highest among the top crossers in Europe so far with 35 accurate crosses (27.71% accuracy rate), trailing only Sevilla's Ivan Rakitic and Southampton's James Ward-Prowse (See BSports Prolific Passer Charts below)
  • Cassano, whose ability on the ball was instrumental in Italy's run to the Euro 2012 final hasn't been called up since then, but if he keeps up his level of production, he may force his way back into Prandelli's thinking ahead of the World Cup in June
